The smallest member of the North American cat family, Lynx rufus ranges over most of the United States, Mexico and southern Canada. They live in a variety of habitat from coniferous and deciduous forests to semi-deserts and scrubland. Hunting rabbits, hares and rodents, bobcats are mostly active during the hours of dawn and dusk. Typically, mating takes place in March each year and after approximately 60 days of gestation, a litter of two to three young are born in May. Bobcat kittens are weaned at four months and are totally independent of their mother at about one year of age.
