Also known as the “sea wolf” or “sea dog”, the Harp Seal is an earless species of seal native to the northernmost Atlantic, and adjacent waters of the Northeastern United States, Canadian Arctic, Russia and Norway. Males may reach a length of 1.9 m (6.25 ft) and weigh as much as 180 kg (400 lb). Males are cream colored, with a dark chocolate brown head and a broad dark chocolate brown “harp” or U-shaped pattern on their back, typically running across the shoulders and down each flank to near the base of the tail.
