Polar Bear, "Ursus maritimus"

“Summertime Stroll”
Limited Edition of 195 | Artist Proof 25

Due to their thick fur coat and fat reserves, polar bears are able to conserve heat so efficiently that in summer they become easily overheated. To prevent heat stress they enter a state of “walking hibernation”. Their body temperature drops, their metabolism slows and they move lethargically when they are not resting. This in turn minimizes any loss of the animal’s layer of fat essential to its survival.
