Polar Bear, "Ursus maritimus"

“Snuggled In”
Limited Edition of 195 | Artist Proof 25

Polar bear cubs are born in late November to early January, weighing on average just over 0.5 kg (1.0 lb) at birth. Usually two cubs are born, although occasionally there are three in a litter. Through the winter the cubs feed on the mother’s very rich milk while she survives on her fat stores. For a successful pregnancy and birth, before denning she needs to have added at least 200 kg (440 lb) to her average weight of 150 to 175 kg (330 to 385 lb).
