The iconic Poinsettia, also known as Noche Buena, meaning Christmas Eve, is native to Mexico and Central America. Euphorbia pulcherrima, a member of the Euphorbiaceae family, is named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Minister to Mexico. Poinsett introduced this magnificent flowering plant to the United States in 1825 where it quickly became a popular Christmas decoration and tradition throughout North America. December 12th is National Poinsettia Day.
