Arctic Fox, "Vulpes lagopus"

“Arctic Sentinel”
Limited Edition of 195 | Artist Proof 25

This small member of the dog family lives in the arctic and sub arctic regions of Alaska, Canada, Russia and Greenland. Males weigh from 2.5 to 5 kg (5.5 to 10 lb); females are slightly smaller. Most arctic foxes have a white winter coat replaced in spring by a brownish gray coat, though some are born ”gray-blue” (charcoal) that lightens slightly in winter. Hunting small mammals like lemmings for food year-round, arctic foxes will often follow a polar bear to scavenge off carcasses from the large bear’s kills.
