With the Banff townsite at its base, Mount Rundle is the most recognized peak in the Canadian Rockies. It was named by Sir James Hector (1834-1907), surgeon and geologist of the Palliser Expedition (1857-1860), after Robert Terrill Rundle (1811-1896), a Methodist missionary who ministered to the Indians of the region during the 1840’s.
